Our Programs
The “Me, My Hair, & I” Project is a series of self-care workshops designed to empower girls through healthy hair care education. This series of workshops boosts youth confidence & self-love while exposing young girls to demonstrations & the versatility of hair. The project builds character, pushes the girls to think critically, instills courage, and helps bridge healthy relationships with self, peers, family, and society. The program teaches four focus areas:
Healthy hair education
Instills knowledge and explains the science behind healthy-hair, goal setting, taking responsibility for one’s own hair care, hair-styling, creating personal regimens, making healthy hair decisions
Topics Include:
How to make healthy decisions for your hair. (The do’s of hair care/tips)
Neglecting your hair. What this looks like. (The don’ts of hair care)
The science behind what healthy hair looks & feels like (balance between moisture & protein)
Discovery of individual hair goals
Choosing the proper tools & products for your hair
Hair styling for various occasions

self-esteem, self-acceptance, self-love
Developing confidence, importance of taking care of one’s mental & physical, belief in self abilities, promoting positive body images, emulating love within self and community, growing to accept own image
Topics Include:
The effects of having confidence vs low-confidence. What does this look and feel like?
Beauty standards around the world.
Defining image myths & fallacies.
Healthy image & hair conversations amongst peers
Promoting positive image & hair confidence within the community
media influences & modern day culture
Defining beauty and the impacts of society’s image standards, how to react and face image pressures, positively influencing community and peers
Topics Include:
The negative impacts of following society’s standards of beauty
Influential & positive role models in today’s culture
How to react when faced with the image pressures of society/media & your peers
How to positively influence the surrounding community to bring about change amongst peers
discovering the roots of textured hair
Unveiling the history of hair that has shaped today’s culture, understanding “bad hair” does not exist
Topics Include:
Prominent figures who have played a role in the history of hair (Madame C.J. Walker, etc)
Timeline of events relating to textured hair
Bad hair does not exist. Where the term originated from. How it affects us today (good hair vs. bad hair conversation)
