My Daily Moisturizing Routine

Hey Hey,

I have a question for my naturals. Have you ever thought about reverting to the creamy crack because "you aint bout this life?" My hilarious cousin said it best. "Are you tired of having thought damn why did I go natural?" Is your hair dry, thirsty, and fiending for moisture??

If you answered yes to any of those questions then this post is definitely for you. I will share what I do on a daily & weekly basis to retain moisture in my crown. But before I begin, I want to tell you to BE CONSISTENT. Please change your bad habits and keep up with the new ones.

The key to healthy hair is having the proper balance between moisture & protein. To help keep adequate levels of moisture, here are some things I do.

MY DAILY MOISTURIZING PROCESS

So on a daily basis (in the morning before I leave my apt) I lightly spritz my hair with Cantu's Coconut oil shine & hold mist. (STEP 1). You are not spraying to the point where your hair feels drenched, hence why I said lightly. You just want to mist it. This product is water-based and provides the main source of moisture. Many people think it is enough to simply put oils and creams alone. However the purpose of the oils & creams is to lock in the moisture. If there is no moisture to seal in, then you are only sealing in the dryness that was on your head.

This product rehydrates your curls and puts some life back into it. I also use my fingers to feel and make sure I didn't miss any spots. So pretty much I search for dry areas and then spray.

Second I apply 1. Camille Rose Curl Love Hair Milk or Camille Rose's Fresh Curl Revitalizing Hair Smoother. I actually sometimes put a little of both, it won't hurt you. This step is just as important because this is what helps lock in the water-based moisture I just sprayed on my strands.

My Weekly Moisturizing Routine

SO not only do I have consistency with my daily routine but I also make sure that each week I deep condition. I deep condition once I have rinsed my light-weight conditioner and detangled. My fav 2 products are 1. Camille Rose Coconut Water Penetrating Treatment & 2. EdenBodyworks JoJoba Monoi All Natural Deep Condition.  Both products leave my hair AMAZINGLY soft (I would seriously put 2 heart eyes right here).

To ensure that my conditioning treatment thoroughly penetrates my strands, I use a hooded dryer. I purchased this from Target but your local beauty supply store or Amazon should also have dryers. I put a shower cap on and sit for 30-40 minutes under the dryer. This is extremely helpful for those who have low-porosity hair being that it is already difficult for moisture to penetrate through the cuticle layer (the outermost layer of your hair). If you do not have a hair dryer, there are other options.

  • Put a shower cap on and hop in the shower. The humidity and steam would be great

  • Put on a shower cap & wrap a heated towel or t-shirt around your head

  • Use a steamer

Here are some pics of my second-day hair from a finger-coil style. I did everything that I just mentioned above and my hair never felt better.

Hope you enjoyed!
